Happy Monday, everyone! The 121st running of the Boston Marathon took place today, with 30,000 people participating this year.
Not only do these runners train for months (sometimes years!) to qualify for and compete in this race, many of them also use the Boston Marathon as an opportunity to raise money for causes and charities they care about. An estimated $30 million was raised by Boston Marathon participants for charities this year alone!
The Boston Marathon partners with over 30 charities to make fundraising easy for participants. Some of the partner charities include the American Red Cross, the YMCA, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The Boston Marathon is another great example of people using sports and athletics to do good and give back to their communities. Check out our other blog posts about athletes, teams, and sports organizations that give back to their communities on our sports philanthropy blog here.
